Large extension to Country House in Appledore, Kent.
Our brief was to provide additional entertainment room at ground floor level to flow into dining and kitchen areas. The design incorporates bi fold door systems which bring the outside space into the entertainment room across green marble floor.
The external design is to match the existing house which dates back to 1901 and to replace an existing sub-standard annex addition. At first floor two additional bedrooms, one of which features an oriel window, and new bathroom which features back lit marble steps up to sunken bath and window surround. The bathroom also features a vaulted ceiling. The interior is o French Chateau contemporary style. In addition we have been involved in the reconfiguration of the front entrance. The existing front entrance door was positioned into an internal corner and had no presence. By extending the hall past the front projecting gable we were able to create a grand entrance in fitting with the house. A new reconstructed stone portico and steps complete the entrance.
Internally we were able to create a double height space with vaulted ceiling containing roof glazing and side lancet windows that flood the internal space with natural light. The internal balcony at first floor level looks down over the double door entrance.
The planning process was difficult but we obtained approval without the need to present the application to committee.
Full construction and building regulation drawings were also prepared for the project.
